Position Overview:

FlexAI is seeking an exceptional Principal AI Software Architect to lead the design and development of our AI software stack, ensuring it is optimized for large-scale training and inference workloads. This role will drive technical strategy, define architectural frameworks, and collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to deliver world-class AI solutions.

We are looking for a high-level AI expert with 15+ years of experience in software/ systems development and 2-3 years of hands-on experience in AI solutions architecture. This is a key technical leadership role with significant influence on FlexAI’s AI software ecosystem.

What you’ll do:

• Lead the architecture of FlexAI’s AI software stack, ensuring it supports scalable, efficient, and high-performance AI training and inference.

  • Define and drive technical strategy for AI workloads, including model training, inference, and deployment across distributed environments.

  • Optimize deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) for performance, elasticity, and reliability at scale.

  • Design and implement AI compute orchestration strategies that leverage a mix of cloud, on-prem, and specialized hardware (GPUs, TPUs, custom accelerators).

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align software and hardware roadmaps, ensuring seamless integration between AI workloads and FlexAI’s infrastructure.

  • Evaluate and implement innovations in distributed AI computing, parallelization techniques, and high-performance AI model execution.

  • Guide engineering teams by setting best practices, conducting design reviews, and mentoring senior engineers.

  • Represent FlexAI externally in AI/ML communities, conferences, and technical discussions with partners and stakeholders.

What you’ll need to be successful:

• 15+ years of experience in AI systems, distributed computing, or performance optimization for large-scale AI workloads.
• Proven expertise in AI solutions architecture, with at least 2-3 years leading AI software architecture efforts in a high-performance computing or cloud environment.
• Deep understanding of AI frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX) and their performance characteristics.
• Strong background in distributed computing and parallelization techniques, including multi-GPU training, HPC environments, and custom AI accelerators.
• Experience designing and optimizing AI workloads for different hardware architectures (GPUs, TPUs, AI accelerators, custom chips).
• Hands-on programming expertise in C++, Python, Go, or Rust, with a focus on low-level optimization and performance tuning.
• Knowledge of AI model deployment strategies, including model quantization, pruning, and compilation techniques.
• Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with experience mentoring senior engineers and working with cross-functional teams.

Bonus Points

• Experience in AI model parallelism techniques (e.g., tensor/model/data parallelism, pipeline parallelism).

• Knowledge of AI hardware/software co-design and experience collaborating with hardware teams on AI acceleration.

• Previous experience in startup environments or high-growth AI/ML-focused companies.

• Contributions to AI open-source projects, publications, or patents in AI computing.
